Okay, okay, okay I must say I’ve been in love with pins/brooches lately – I think I’ve been buying them more than dresses and that never happens! I’ve noticed a lot of pin-up inspired gals rocking pins like these and I absolutely adore the whole pink ladies vibe from Grease (pink jackets studded with quirky pins/brooches) and I’m totally getting one of those pink Collectif clothing jackets so I can match y’all. I thought I would share my current favourite brooches/pins which are little different from the usual brooches/pins. As much as I like the typical ‘pin-up’ brooch brands I do prefer pins to have a bit of quirk and humour to them and I love supporting smaller brands!
If you’re looking for a new pin/brooch I highly recommend any of these amazing businesses – I know they are all fantastic quality as I own quite a few of these!
1. Oh You Fox
Oh my gosh, I think I’m a little obsessed with Oh You Fox at the moment every time I have a look at their website I find myself wanting everything?? I currently own ‘Resting Babe Face’ (MY FAVOURITE) & recently found myself buying the cutie pie black cat to help raise funds for Victoria’s(creator & owner of Oh You Fox) wee kitty Skittles (taking a kitty overseas is no easy feat)! And I wanted it, I mean really wanted it.

If you have been following me on Instagram (@missflossypots #shamelessplug) you would have seen this super cool pin from Fairytale Collars. I love pins and I absolutely adore my red lipstick so this pin is everything. I know it will appeal to a lot of you pin up ladies so I had to share!

3. Pony People
I had a lovely lunch date with my good gal pal Xamia Arc a couple of weeks back and I remember her showing me these ADORABLE pins from Pony People. She bought the cutest pins from them (check out her instagram to see) and I thought I’d have a gander through their Etsy and boy did I not regret it! I fell in love with this kitty as it reminds me of one of my boys back home. I am hoping they will be restocking pins soon as their etsy stock is a little low!
*Fatty Catty – Pony People
4. Bel Air Baby
I absolutely ADORE Bel Air Baby! I bought the best brooch ever from their wee etsy store earlier in the year (pink doughnut with sprinkles!!) and I recently made a second purchase which I will share on my Instagram as soon as they arrive. I love the quality of these brooches, the fact they’re all original drawings by Mira (the creator) and they are all so quirky. The amount of pale pinks in the Bel Air Baby catalog genuinely makes me happy and I’m so excited to see what they do in the future. Those doughnut earrings have my name written all over them!

I.Love.Flowers. And do you know what I love more? Floral print dresses. This beautiful piece from Dolly and Dotty is called the Katherine dress and I am absolutely in love with it. My pinup wardrobe has been missing winter essentials – I think I have one dress with long sleeves and the rest are sleeveless so when I saw the Katherine dress I knew I had to have it. The delicate floral print is perfect year round – bright for those dull winter days and you can match your surroundings in the spring. The Katherine dress is made from 95% Cotton, 5% Elasthan making it a lightweight fabric with a bit of stretch – although I 100% agree with Dolly and Dotty’s advice, you will need to size up as this is very tight fitting on me. In my excitement I didn’t read that and got my usual size but it still fits!!

1. Swing Jacket – The Seamstress of Bloomsbury – $216.71 NZD
Oh my god this JACKET! It was love at first sight with this baby, I have never wanted a coat more than I have wanted this one. I fell in love with the red check (check it out on their website) and the entirety of the outfit the model was wearing. Pants? I don’t even wear pants but paired with this they look AMAZING. This is something I’m saving for but it can wait for winter (even though we haven’t had a summer here in Wellington).
2. Red Bamboo Hoop Earrings – Bows and Crossbones – $10.40 NZD
I have been obsessed with bamboo hoop earrings for a couple of months and I finally caved and bought two different styles from Bows and Crossbones last night. Whilst scrolling through their amazing catalog I saw these gorgeous earrings but girl, I’m on a budget so they will just have to wait. I will see how my other pairs work out then buy these babies!
3. Cherry Red – Besame Cosmetics – $30.55 NZD
I have fallen head over heels for Besame Cosemetics after my boyfriend bought me two of their lipsticks – Red, hot red and Victory red. I absolutely love the smell, colour and the fact they last all day and AND they feel so light on the lip! This is the next shade I want in their collection because you can never have too many red lippies, right?
4. Winnie Trousers – The Seamstress of Bloomsbury – $84.95 NZD
Again, I’m not a huge fan of trousers but these look amazing on the model from Seamstress and I just want to look like her! I have an amazing jumpsuit from Seamstress and I know for a fact that crepe de chine is super flattering even if you’re not super confident with your tum!
5. Grace Blouse – The Seamstress of Bloomsbury – $67.61 NZD
Well now I’m just looking super obsessed with The Seamstress of Bloomsbury… that’s because I am! I love their nod to the forties and this blouse is so forties it HURTS. I really love high necks so this blouse is up my alley. I just want everything Seamstress has to offer – note to self: win the lottery.
6. Keds – Champion Oxford CVO – Hannahs – $69.95 NZD
A few years ago I bought some canvas white sneakers that were SO cute and I really want a new pair that I can just wear with all of my outfits. I am all about comfort and I refuse to wear heels especially in summer! These are something that I will probably buy once I find out how to keep them super white.
Well I’m not going to pretend like I’m some car aficionado but I do try to make it to the American Vehicle day every year even if it’s just to “ooh” and “aah” at all of the pretty cars. This year I went with my boyfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed it and as I blogged it last year I thought I would blog it this year just to keep the tradition alive! When you live in Karori getting to Trentham is quite the mission ESPECIALLY if you don’t own a car so in the early hours of the morning on Sunday (10.30) we took our first form of public transport for the day – the first of many. After the first bus we set out on our journey – the Upper Hutt line (train) it was a forty + minute ride but it was pretty stunning, the first half of the trip overlooked the Wellington harbour and on a sunny day it looks incredible (by chance it was sunny for the first time this summer). I absolutely adore my new Retrospec’d dress so I thought I would put together a little #pinupchristmas outfit just to show it off! I absolutely adore the brand Retrospec’d and I have A LOT of their dresses on my wishlist, I highly recommend checking them out if you’re a fan of tradition 1950’s fashion. This outfit is simple but effective; the hardest part was the updo! What are you wearing today? Remember to hashtag #pinupchristmas – I love seeing everyone’s outfits! I am all about accessorizing this year and I feel like I’ve really let myself down in terms festive accessorizing but my loss is your gain! Here are some of my favourite Christmassy brooches out there at the moment featuring quite a few cat themed brooches.
1. Deer Arrow’s Kitten in Mittens can be worn two ways as a double brooch or as a SUPER cute cardigan clip just to make your outfits ten times cuter and festive; a win-win!!! I would honestly wear this all year round as it’s not too kitsch if you know what I mean.
1.Kitten in Mittens – Deer Arrow
2.Season’s Greeting Brooch – Erstwilder
3.Christmas Cocktail – Retro Resins
4.Crystal Snowflake Christmas Brooch – Luck Trader
5.Cat Brooch – Pink Fox Findings

Whilst I was up in Auckland a couple of months ago I had the opportunity to shoot with an amazing photographer by the name of The Undefined Photography. I thought I would dedicated these high quality images (I wish all my post’s photos were this nice) to a dress review – after all I love this dress! A huge thank you to Katherine ( The Wardrobe/The Undefined Photography) for giving me such an incredible experience – she made me feel so comfortable during the photo-shoot (which is no easy feat, I’m an awkward person) and she made every photo look incredible and each photo feels unique and different to the rest. Check out her blog here – she has amazing outfit of the day posts and interviews with some incredible pinups such as Miss Hero Holiday and Miss Victory Violet plus she is just a beautiful person inside and out!
