Feeling spooky!

Long time no talk! The last month has been a bit of a roller coaster; I have been working five days a week AND I made it in the finals for Miss Pinup New Zealand in association with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum!! As you can imagine I have had a lot of prep work – four outfits ( & that’s just for the pageant!) I’ve been working with the ever so lovely Fran from Cry Cry Cry Clothing and I must say every outfit is MAGICAL! I cannot wait to share them all with you. ❤ Miss Pinup New Zealand in association with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum takes place on the Saturday of the Very Vintage Day Out (weekend) in Auckland on the 28th & 29th of October (yes, this time next week)! So come on and cheer me on if you’re in town! If you have already got your tickets let me know below – I must meet everyone!

If you won’t be there.. please vote Miss Flossypots for People’s Choice Pinup by clicking here! Thank you! ❤

Moving on… Daisy Jean Floral Designs recently contacted me about a Halloween collaboration which is why we are here! If you didn’t know Daisy Jean Floral Designs was one of the first “Pinup” businesses I ever bought from when I first started in the scene three years ago. So it was huge honour for me to be asked to collaborate with them; their hair flowers are my favourites & they are so well made!

Daisy Jean Floral Designs came up with a super cool Halloween range (in which they have hand drawn, painted and assembled) ranging from owls to cats and my personal favourite The Witches Flight brooch! I love the resin coat over the top of the brooch and the size of the brooch itself; it’s a real statement piece but I also feel it can be worn all year round depending on the outfit. I decided to pair the brooch with this incredible dress from Chi Chi Clothing – I have bought from them before and they never fail me! This dress is vampy – I love it especially as I don’t own a lot in black.

What are your Halloween plans this year? I’m attending the Blood Moon Ball and already have my outfit sorted.  Are you attending the Blood Moon Ball?

Harry Bardot Dress + Claudia Crab Bag by Joanie Clothing

I’ve been longing for the sun for so long and Wellington was finally blessed with 4-ish hours of sun on Sunday. Nothing super hot but there were actual warm patches in my house.. we are living in crazy times. It was my day off so I decided to lounge around in my new Joanie Clothing pieces (which they kindly gifted me) and I thought I would share some thoughts on this beautiful Bardot Sun dress & Claudia Crab Bag!

IMG_9913

For the longest time I have stood clear of anything off the shoulder/possible arm exposure but I’m getting to that point in my life where I don’t actually care anymore. If it’s hot I don’t want to be covered in a cardigan; I need that breeze on my shoulders not another unnecessary layer! So I’m SO glad I picked this bardot dress; I decided to size up to a UK 16 not something I usually do but I know this dress doesn’t have free hips like I’m used to and when ordering a from another country I get very nervous about sizing! In New Zealand I’m a solid size 12 sometimes a size 14; ordering a size 16 was a mistake in someways. Yes, the dress was definitely too big BUT I kind of like that about it. It’s roomy and breathable; I don’t feel restricted and I can tighten the waist with a belt AND I can fit a petticoat underneath which makes me super happy!

IMG_9985
IMG_9889

The fabric is a light weight floral-y paisley embroidered cotton (100% too). The inside is lined so you don’t have to worry about the dress being see-through (which I love)! The straps are adjustable and the sleeves are elasticated which didn’t leave any markings on my shoulders which is something I’m always very aware of. Nothing worse than arms of a garment being too tight!
Overall I’m SO pleased with the bardot sun dress; so much so I kept it on ALL day (I’m strictly a PJ girl when I’m at home)! I wish it would come in other colourways!
Also how freaking cute is Claudia the Crab Bag? She has pockets and a drawstring for security; I cannot wait to take it to the beach (once we have a little more sun)!

I hope you enjoyed this outfit – I really loved putting it together!

I love every piece in this collection; the range of flowers are just gorgeous and perfect for almost every outfit and the animals have a new flair and are pretty freaking cute! My favourites from this collection : Sumptuous Sunflower (sunflowers just scream summer to me and the glitter in this is adorable!), Teleopea Waratah ( it’s just so pretty to look at??) , Oscar Wildenflox ( so much character – I love him!) and She’s So Foxy (so versatile and I love the expression).

As a lover of all thing furry this range has really fulfilled my expectations; I absolutely adore Erstwilder’s quirky take on everyday pets. In particular; Shi – Ping the Shar Pei (those glasses and back rolls are LIFE!), Claude the Chic (because who doesn’t love a dog in a beret? Oh and those rose/gold details are stunning!) and Natural Predator (first off, it’s a cat!! And it’s pink!! – Double win). The feathered friends are filled with beautiful bright colours which will be absolutely perfect for spring; I really love the finish/colour in the Precious Peafowl although I’m terrified of birds!

Flat Lay Favourites #1

Danielle from Devel brought ‘Flat Lays’ to my attention a couple months back via Instagram in a series of colour challenges labelled #flatlayfridaychallenge. Ever since then I have been a little obsessed but kind of scared to put together my own UNTIL yesterday. Yesterday I thought why not? I’ve been so sick of the endless selfies on my profile; I want to start mixing things up a little bit by adding a few flat lays and more food photos.

IMG_8806

What is a ‘flat lay’? For me it would be arranging/showcasing items in an orderly or randomized fashion that appeals to you on a flat surface. Whether it’s super organized or items randomly placed, it’s really up to you. Then snap a photo from a bird’s eye view perspective (#technicalterm) and there you have it! Easy.

IMG_8790

This week I’m running through a couple of my favourites and of course the underlying theme is pink. Here a run through of each item – if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen these items pop up on my stories and/or my profile.

1. Unicorn/Magical Makeup Bag from K-mart: What can I say? I’m sucker for anything that’s pink and glittery.. I saw this on one of my infamous k-mart shops with Mum and fell in love with it. I haven’t used it much yet because it’s so pretty and I don’t want to ruin it BUT it will be my make-up bag soon enough.

2. Hell Bunny Pink Belt from Kabella Baby: I saw an Instagram post from one of my great friends, Rachel, wearing this amazing belt a couple of months ago. I had to have one immediately so I bought it the next day.. I do not regret this purchase at all, I am a huge fan of this style of Hell Bunny belt and now own it in three different colours and wear them on a daily basis! Plus it’s pink..

3. Fun Lovin’ Frenchie Brooch by Erstwilder: I have LOVED Grease for the longest time and when Erstwilder announced that they were coming out with a Grease collection I knew I had to get my hands on one! And I did! I’ve been loving my Frenchie and have put together a series of photos that should be on my Instagram.

4. Ice cream & Doughnut brooch from Bel Air Baby: I just love Bel Air Baby. I’ve been wearing these bad boys at least three times a week. There is something so cute about them, they just go with every outfit and they really make me happy.

5. Chocolate Doughnuts: If you know anything about me you’ll know that I freaking LOVE doughnuts. On Monday I went into my local bakery to pick up some snacks for my girl Xamia Arc and saw these HUGE doughnuts for $2.60 so I bought two. They are so freaking good; they don’t taste super fried (more bready than anything) and the chocolate is so sweet not a conventional doughnut but still super good.  I mean.. look at it.

6. S’well Bottle 500ml: I’ve seen these everywhere lately! And as it was recently Plastic Free July I thought I’d pick one of these bad boys up to reduce plastic waste. I’m so glad I bought it too! I’ve been using it 24/7; it keeps cold water cold for 24 hours and hot water hot for 12. I love that! I’m so excited to use it in the Summer time. I highly recommend purchasing one of these.

I hope you enjoyed my little write up and please let me know some of your favourites down below! ❤

Flossy’s Pin & Brooch Favourites

Okay, okay, okay I must say I’ve been in love with pins/brooches lately – I think I’ve been buying them more than dresses and that never happens! I’ve noticed a lot of pin-up inspired gals rocking pins like these and I absolutely adore the whole pink ladies vibe from Grease (pink jackets studded with quirky pins/brooches) and I’m totally getting one of those pink Collectif clothing jackets so I can match y’all. I thought I would share my current favourite brooches/pins which are little different from the usual brooches/pins. As much as I like the typical ‘pin-up’ brooch brands I do prefer pins to have a bit of quirk and humour to them and I love supporting smaller brands!
If you’re looking for a new pin/brooch I highly recommend any of these amazing businesses – I know they are all fantastic quality as I own quite a few of these!
Miss Flossypots - Favourite Pins

1. Oh You Fox
Oh my gosh, I think I’m a little obsessed with Oh You Fox at the moment every time I have a look at their website I find myself wanting everything?? I currently own ‘Resting Babe Face’ (MY FAVOURITE) & recently found myself buying the cutie pie black cat to help raise funds for Victoria’s(creator & owner of Oh You Fox) wee kitty Skittles (taking a kitty overseas is no easy feat)! And I wanted it, I mean really wanted it.
*Resting Babe Face – Oh You Fox
*Cutie Pie Black Cat – Oh You Fox
*Delicious but Vicious – Oh you Fox

2. FairytaleCollars
If you have been following me on Instagram (@missflossypots #shamelessplug) you would have seen this super cool pin from Fairytale Collars. I love pins and I absolutely adore my red lipstick so this pin is everything. I know it will appeal to a lot of you pin up ladies so I had to share!
*Red Lipstick Club – Fairytale Collars

3. Pony People
I had a lovely lunch date with my good gal pal Xamia Arc a couple of weeks back and I remember her showing me these ADORABLE pins from Pony People. She bought the cutest pins from them (check out her instagram to see) and I thought I’d have a gander through their Etsy and boy did I not regret it! I fell in love with this kitty as it reminds me of one of my boys back home. I am hoping they will be restocking pins soon as their etsy stock is a little low!
*Fatty Catty – Pony People

4. Bel Air Baby
I absolutely ADORE Bel Air Baby! I bought the best brooch ever from their wee etsy store earlier in the year (pink doughnut with sprinkles!!) and I recently made a second purchase which I will share on my Instagram as soon as they arrive. I love the quality of these brooches, the fact they’re all original drawings by Mira (the creator) and they are all so quirky. The amount of pale pinks in the Bel Air Baby catalog genuinely makes me happy and I’m so excited to see what they do in the future. Those doughnut earrings have my name written all over them!
*Vintage Mixer -Bel Air Baby
*Custom Heart – Bel Air Baby

TOP PICKS FOR JUNE

Hi all,
I am back with some of my pin-up related favourites but this time I’m doing things a little differently; a monthly top picks rather than weekly that way I can pick the creme de la creme from the pin-up world. So on the first/second of every month I will post last months top picks – hopefully that all makes some sense! June was the month of A LOT of wants and it was a real struggle picking only six items but here they are nonetheless. I know there is QUITE a bit of Lady V London #notsponsored so I will try cut that down and I will give more of a diverse range of products next month.

Miss Flossypots - June Top Picks
1. Tutti Fruity Border Tea Dress – Lady V London

When I saw this dress I flipped the F out!! I love pink, I love the fun fruit print and I know I love the quality of the tea dresses from Lady V London.  This dress is a polyester dress which means #no-ironing and I am a huge fan of that like I said in a post last month but I have noticed a little bit of piling on the skirt of my flamingo border dress.. Could be the way I am washing it though!

2. Banned Black Petticoat – Kabella Baby

I need a black petticoat in my life! And have been eyeing this one from Kabella Baby for the last two weeks. It’s a banned lifeform petticoat and I have the white one that I wear most days. They are SUPER soft and fit perfectly under most of my dresses (sans tea dresses) and they have to be one of my favourite reproduction petticoats. I also desperately want the pink version of this from Kabella Baby but that is DEFINITELY sold out in my size!! 😥

3. Banana Tea Dress – Lady V London

Well this is a little bit of an older pick but I have been loving this dress for the longest time, every time I see it a little bit of me wants to just buy it but I still have my reservations; what would I pair this with? A yellow cardigan – I’m sold. Unfortunately it’s sold out on their website!

4. Sweet William Dress – Cry Cry Cry Clothing

Okay y’all LISTEN UP! Fran from Cry Cry Cry Clothing is the definition of amazing. I have been working with her for my #mpunz entry dress and I couldn’t be more pleased with her work. The dress custom made for me is the best fitting dress I have ever owned and the quality is out of this world; so when Cry Cry Cry Clothing opened their bigcartel shop I was so pumped! I immediately bought the Heaven Dress and it literally feels like it was brought down from the heavens (and looks fab on) and then I saw the Sweet William dress listed the other day… Now I want this one too!! I can just imagine a bit floppy straw hat, a yellow cropped cardigan and some little sandals (+ sun). Perfection – now I need to wait for that next pay day! 😉

5. Pink & Red Tootsie Crop Cardi – Doll Me Up Darling

If you follow me on any of my social media platforms you will know that I freaking LOVE these cardigans. I now own blue, yellow, purple and I think the pink & red cropped cardigans need to make an appearance in my wardrobe. I adore the cut of these cardigans as they are just the right length and sit super well – there isn’t another cardigan out there that is as good as these ones!

6. Hibiscus Floral Hepburn Dress – Lady V London

Right, now y’all know that I love the Lady V London tea dresses but there is an issue in the length of the tea dress. I don’t have any short petticoats so I have to roll my banned petti up and it can look so bad but I persevere anyway because pretty dresses. BUT I would love to try out the Hepburn dresses as I know they are a lot longer and might be a better alternative especially now that it’s winter and this print really calls out to me.

Stay tuned for next months TOP PICKS! Xxx

Dyann Flower Pot Dress by Retrospec’d with The Undefined Photography

16-10-11-Miss-Flossypots-318-Logo

Throwback to late last year when I was having a surreal experience shooting with the lovely Katherine from The Undefined Photography. Once I knew I was shooting with Katherine I just had to splurge and get this amazing Dyann Flower Pot dress from Retrospec’d, I had been eyeing it up for the longest time. There is something incredibly special about this dress not only is it beautifully crafted but the overall appearance of it is breathtaking; I am so glad I nabbed mine before they sold out in my size! I bought the Dyann dress in size 12 which is a little bit bigger than NZ standard size 12 with the waist measuring 31.5 inches which is more of a size 14. Nevertheless I don’t mind having a little bit of wriggle room in a dress and it does come with a super handy red belt which can create more of a cinched waist and it’s detachable. I did have a little issue with the under bust measurements though, the band feels a little too tight and kind of in the wrong position for my body but everybody is different – but I will still wear it!! 😉

About Retrospec’d from Retrospecd.com

The idea was as simple and wholesome as the vintage fashion that inspired it: everyone deserves to have a fabulous dress – no matter their age, size, or the decade in which they’re living.

That philosophy – as well as an exuberant love for the vintage style of years gone by – has informed the hard work of sisters Sharon Hanley and Teena Borg. Retrospec’d is the fruit of their labour of love.

Drawing on their own vast collection of vintage and retro dresses – including 1940s and 50s dresses – Sharon and Teena aim to produce retro fashion and dresses that will make you feel fantastic when you’re wearing them. This means not only a fun style, but also a fantastic fit.

All Retrospec’d garments are made in Australia to the very highest standard. The majority of the fabrics themselves are the product of many months spent finding colours and design elements that are “just right”. The result is fresh, vintage-inspired fashion that simply can’t be found anywhere else in the world.

The Retrospec’d story continues in this spirit, with each new vintage design inspiration marking the start of a new chapter in the retro fashion and dresses we offer. Our loyal customers often tell us how they are frequently stopped on the street to be told how fantastic they look in their Retrospec’d outfit. We can imagine no finer feeling than looking so great that you stop a stranger in their tracks. To be able to deliver this experience is our ongoing honour and pleasure.

Lately I have been striving to support local/ethical businesses and the fact that Retrospec’d is made in Australia is one of the reasons why I bought this dress in the first place and I got it from the lovely Kaye from Kabella Baby (from Christchurch, NZ) – double win! I know it’s not easy and affordable to buy local/ethical but honestly in the long run it’s worth it; the quality is far superior and lasts far longer than things that aren’t made ethically AND if you’re buying local you’re really making an impact in someone else’s life. Again, I totally understand if you’re not in financial position and I do love a good sale but it’s something to work towards – I am definitely not perfect!

16-10-11-Miss-Flossypots-403-Logo (1)16-10-11-Miss-Flossypots-417-Logo

A massive thank you to the lovely Katherine from The Undefined Photography for all of these beautiful photos & for the hair flower. I wish that I could one day obtain a tenth of your talent – you’re a real star! If you would like to hear more about my experience read all about it in my previous review post on the ‘Dolce’ Pink Spray Floral Swing Dress.
